About Steel Structure Bolted Ball Joint
The steel structure bolted ball connection realises the welding-free assembly of the mesh frame nodes through the precision cooperation of the built-in cone head, socket and high-strength bolts, which significantly improves the construction efficiency and stability of the structure, and is especially suitable for large-span space structures.
The core principle of the bolt ball node is based on the mechanical transmission path: the tension is transmitted through the steel pipe → cone head → high-strength bolt → steel ball, and the pressure is dispersed to the ball through the sleeve. Its design needs to meet the limitations of ball diameter ≤ 300mm, bolt specification ≤ M64 and other parameters to ensure the node bearing capacity and seismic performance. The co-ordination between the built-in cone head and the sleeve can avoid the weld quality defects caused by the welding of the traditional external cone head, and at the same time reduce the on-site installation errors.
Zhuhai Airport T2 Terminal Building adopts a new type of ‘anti-fake screwing’ bolt ball node, through BIM technology accurate positioning and prefabricated installation, to achieve 65,000 square metres of efficient assembly of the roof. This technology solved the hidden danger of ‘false screwing’ of traditional bolts, and was certified by China Steel Structure Association, becoming a model for large-scale public projects. In addition, a plant project in Xinjiang significantly improved the anti-loosening ability of nodes by optimising the screwing length of bolts (≥1.1d) and lubrication treatment.
